Week 1 Outreach in Mexicali

Just a short blog here. I am at an internet cafe for a quick look at emails and to send a blog out...

Last week we had about 150 teens come from Alberta, California and Maryland to share the good news through churches here in the Mexicali valley.

We showed up a day late for set up because Caleb got sick with a stomach flu. So we drove on Sunday to Mexicali. On Sunday night the rest of us had the same thing. Jacob and Elijah were sick for about 12-18 hours and Shar and I were down for almost 36 hours altogether with some if the most violent forms of "stomach flu" we'd ever had. That same night 12 team members came down with the same thing and by the end of the week, we'd had about 100 people sick at one time or another. It was a huge challenge, but seeing the way the grups pulled togetyher to serve one another was fantastic.
I (mike) was comandeered into a translator service because so many were sick- there was just not enough to go around. So I followed a group around for a few days. Mid way through their youthpastor and main translator both got sick at the same time (they were both the best spanish speakers in the group) which left us with me and one other translator- and she had lost her voice. It was quite an experience, but with lots of help, we made ourselves understood and the Good News was proclaimed!

It was a challenging week, but was very good for all!

This week is very small (only about 35 students) and there has been no sickness in the camp. I am once again helping translating and being the cameraman as well. Shar is helping lead the groups that clean bathrooms.

Please continue to pray for us that we would be faithful and that God would be glorified.

By the way, we had about 100 people respond to God's offer of salvation last week. That is 1 salvation for every sick person! Praise God!!

Until next time,

mike

That is so cool, the number of people coming to Christ in comparison with the number of sick. Who says there isn't a spiritual battle here! But God's team will always win in the end. It's amazing how God uses our weaknesses as his strength. Good job guys!
